Under general supervision, direct the public in disposal of trash, collect fees, and operate the equipment necessary to carry out the operations at the solid waste transfer station. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, plus two (2) years of responsible work experience, preferably related to the duties identified above.
  • Must have knowledge of safe and effective operating maintenance techniques for the trash compactor and the heavy equipment used in the transfer station yard.
  • Must have knowledge of basic record keeping.
  • Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must have the ability to issue receipts, make change, and account for cash received.
  • Must have the ability to maintain pleasant working relationships with superior, co-workers and the public.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in both oral and written English.
  • Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination.
  • This position is safety sensitive.
  • Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing.
  • Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  • Employee must possess a valid New Mexico driver's license by employment date.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and collect fees from the public for boxed, bagged, and open dumping.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain trash compactor.
  • Assist the public with open container dumping; operate front end loader to move and pack containers, keep yard area tidy, and move full and empty containers into position.
  • Prepare receipts.
  • Keep accurate daily accounts of all fees collected and containers transported.
  • Deposit fees as assigned.
  • Clean office area; ensure security of cash collected and of transfer station.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
