About The Position

The Academic Advisor and Success Coach at Northwest Missouri State University plays a crucial role in supporting transfer and returning students through their onboarding, enrollment, and advisement processes. Additionally, the advisor will instruct university-required courses aimed at fostering academic success and accountability among students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and completion of a Master's degree within one year of hire date.
  • 1-3 years of related experience working with undergraduate students or in student services.
  • Strong communication skills (written, oral, and interpersonal) with an emphasis on student needs.
  • Collaboration skills to work closely with various campus stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with technology and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and strong planning and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit transfer students through visits to other institutions and participation in transfer fairs.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for transfer and returning students regarding advisement and enrollment.
  • Advise students on the transferability of courses from other schools.
  • Maintain a caseload of on-campus and online transfer and returning students, ensuring knowledge of Northwest programs.
  • Communicate with first-time transfers throughout their first year and provide ongoing support.
  • Document advisement conversations and academic planning in CRM databases.
  • Review degree audits for quality assurance of transferable credits.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community college advisors and faculty.
  • Analyze feedback and report to unit leadership regarding competitive environments.
  • Assist with admission and recruitment events, orientation, and related activities.
  • Support the Associate Director with articulation agreements and initiatives.
  • Update the TES system and equivalencies as needed.
  • Deliver curriculum for academic success courses each semester.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with students in academic recovery or success coaching.
  • Perform other academic success, recruitment, and retention duties as assigned.
