Job Description: Purpose: Coordinates training activities to include development of curriculum and delivery of job specific training to meet departmental initiatives. Overview: The Training Specialist supports Subject Matter Experts in the Customer Service Contact Center (CSCC) by coordinating and delivering effective training for new hires and existing employees. This role combines administrative coordination such as scheduling, presentation preparation, and record management—with hands-on instruction in systems like Motorola Radio, GIS mapping, IPS Asset Management, and Salesforce.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus two (2) years of experience in a technical training environment.
  • Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
  • Licensing for specific disciplines may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and/or delivering training in a 24/7 contact center environment supporting both phone operations and radio communications for internal and external customers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective customer service techniques, including conflict resolution and de-escalation strategies
  • Familiarity with Motorola radio systems or similar emergency communication technology
  • Knowledge of contact center telephony platforms and call handling workflows
  • Understanding of water and wastewater processes and common service concerns within a public utility setting
  • Proficiency with Customer Relationship Management tools, asset management system, MS Office Suite, SharePoint, Workday and to support training development, delivery, and tracking
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage and support diverse learning groups
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with SME’s and trainees
  • Ability to travel between multiple work locations as needed

Responsibilities

  • Surveys various training techniques, materials, and commercial offerings to select the most appropriate process for the delivery of training.
  • Delivers targeted, audience-appropriate instructor-led training sessions.
  • Coordinates student and facility schedules for delivery of training and maintains and prepares appropriate records of participation.
  • Develops written training materials, visual aids, and reference materials, including course curriculums.
  • Performs preproduction, production, and postproduction work on computer- and video- training materials that use computer and streaming audio-visual technologies for on-demand use.
  • Develops and administers assessments of staff skills for use in developing training strategies and curriculum, and effectiveness of delivery.
  • Conducts research or surveys to determine the effectiveness of training provided.
  • May lead and train others.
