About The Position

Our work depends on a versatile and motivated Instructor to join our team to develop, organize, and conduct training and educational programs for fleet sailors in support of Navy Advanced Warfare Training (AWT). The successful candidate will develop, organize and conduct Combat Systems and Operations training programs for personnel at SCSTC Det SW in San Diego, CA. As a Training Specialist Principal, the candidate would train officers and sailors in tactical employment of both IAMD and SSDS combat systems and associated weapons and sensor systems. When required, the candidate would provide subject matter expertise in support of curriculum development and delivery of other SCSTC courses supporting the U.S. Navy team of professionals. MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT Provides dynamic teaching & training as well as assessment that require advanced knowledge of U.S. Navy Aegis and SSDS Combat Systems Capabilities and Limitations. Uses Aegis and SSDS-specific simulation software, tools and procedures to review and analyze U.S. Navy SSDS capabilities and limitations with reference to current U.S. Navy operational and tactical guidance; conceptualizes and integrates the employment of defensive systems using engagement doctrine within each IAMD and SSDS Combat Systems’ abilities in a dynamic operational tactical environment. Strong background in both IAMD and SSDS capabilities and limitations, benefits and risks to automating defensive systems, threat-centric mission planning, tactical communication as well as execution of pre-planned responses. Conducts dynamic assessment of the sailors’ abilities to comply with approved maintenance, operational procedures, and ship’s Battle Orders and thereafter provides formal appraisal of performance with recommendations for improvement and methods to maintain technical and tactical proficiency. Prepares, reviews and customizes curriculum lesson plans and instructor guides in support of traditional classroom teaching. Supports course reviews and curriculum updates by periodically conducting training gap analysis and providing formal feedback and recommendations for course improvement. Documents the training conducted with specifics of the individual areas / watch station and is responsible for generation of a formal assessment of measure of success via written report. Develops, tests, maintains and delivers advanced tactical scenario-based SSDS training programs and related materials in support of SCSTC training objectives. Establishes and reviews course content and objectives. Conducts training sessions and develops criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of training activities. Maintains records of training activities, participant progress and program effectiveness. Maintains knowledge of relevant and current U.S., allied and adversary technologies/tactical guidance, collaborates with external stakeholders and provides instructor leadership and mentoring as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work/military experience.
  • Eight (8) years of experience with the applicable system or process as either a maintenance technician manager or operator manager with responsibility for teaching the applicable system or function task to others in a master level training environment.
  • Relevant experience in the fields of surface, subsurface, integrated air and missile defense, Strike, or C4I is required.
  • Of the eight years, two (2) years of experience as an Instructor in a formal Navy individual training environment, to include presentation skills, public speaking skills, curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials and the results of instruction and counseling students on academic learning problems including one (1) year relevant experience using training systems/simulations for effective and correct presentation of learning objectives.
  • Active Secret Clearance required.
  • US Citizenship Required
  • Must be able to support training with extended periods on your feet while instructing.
  • Must be in physical condition to support embarkation on U.S. Navy ship.
  • Candidate will be required to support multi-shift work as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a qualified AAWC/ADWC in support of shipboard Combat Systems Training Team (CSTT) or shore-based instructor with Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC), Aegis Training and Readiness Center (ATRC), Tactical Training Group (TACTRAGRU) Pacific or Atlantic or Afloat Training Group (ATG) is a significant plus.
  • Primary classroom instruction in IAMD and SSDS Advanced Warfare Training as an AAWC/ADWC.
  • Additional trainer support required to act as Air Intercept Controller Supervisor (AICS) as well as the Air and Missile Defense Warfare Commander in scenario lab-based environments.
  • Master/Afloat Training Specialist in support of SCSTC/TACTRAGRU/ATG preferred.
  • Travel may be required up to 10-25% of time.
