About The Position

This Training Specialist position with GDIT focuses on transforming technology into opportunity within enterprise IT, connecting and enhancing critical systems. The role involves providing technical and tactical training at SCSTC Det Southwest, CA, specializing in surface radars, navigation, and data link systems for surface combatants. The specialist will support Advanced Warfare Training (AWT) Phases, including Self-Assessment Groom Training (SAGT), by developing, organizing, and conducting technical and tactical training to meet US Navy requirements. This encompasses both classroom and hands-on instruction for technicians and tacticians on the operation and maintenance of Navigation and Data Link Systems. Key responsibilities include developing, testing, maintaining, and delivering moderately complex training programs, establishing course content, evaluating training effectiveness, and maintaining records. The trainer must possess a deep understanding of navigational systems to provide technical training to technicians on Aegis and SSDS MK 2 platforms, ensuring proficiency in initializing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting onboard navigational systems according to CSOSS procedures and technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Must currently possess a Secret Clearance Level
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance Level
  • US Citizenship Required
  • Five (5) years of experience with the required system or process as either a maintenance technician or operator with responsibility for teaching the applicable system or function task to others in an apprentice level training environment
  • One (1) year experience as an instructor or facilitator in a Navy Training Environment, to include curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials and the results of instruction and counseling students on academic learning problems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of casualty response, familiarity with CSOSS, Sailor to Engineer websites and experience with Combat System Training Team (CSTT) methodologies
  • Must be able to support training with extended periods on your feet while training
  • Must be in physical condition to traverse a U.S. Navy Ship while observing drills as well as support (as required) embarkation on a U.S. Navy ship underway
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work/military experience
  • Proficiency with ECDIS-N (Electronic Chart Display and Information System – Navy) or Voyage Management System (VMS) familiarity in Global Positioning System-Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Service (GPNTS) is essential
  • Adept with the Digital Hybrid Speed Log (DHYSL)
  • Knowledge of Interior Communication Switchboards (ICSB), their uses, and typical locations on a ship is necessary
  • Proficient with the Navigation Critical Distribution System (NCDS) and their function in distributing navigation-based messaging
  • AN/WSN-7 Ring Laser Gyro Navigator (RLGN) Inertial Navigation System (INS) is required, including the inputs/outputs and calibration methods
  • Proficiency with Digital Flux Gate Magnetic Compass (DFGMC), its function in determining magnetic heading and its typical location

  • Preferred Navigational Systems and Networks Expertise include: Global Positioning System (GPS), Navigation Sensor System Interface (NAVSSI) and Digital Multiplexing Systems (DMS) as well as modern data networks such as Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS)
  • Desired NECs: ET 9615, ET1520, ET9612, V31B, V23B, V02B, 805A/9502
  • Experience with Integrated Bridge and Navigation Systems (IBNS), including integration, navigational, control, and communication functions from applicable systems

Responsibilities

  • Help train specializing in surface radars, navigation and data link systems for surface combatants
  • Support Advanced Warfare Training (AWT) Phases, including Self-Assessment Groom Training (SAGT)
  • Develop, organize, and conduct technical and tactical training necessary to meet US Navy training requirements
  • Encompass both classroom and hands-on instruction for technicians and tacticians on the operation and maintenance of Navigation and Data Link Systems
  • Develop, test, maintain, and deliver moderately complex training programs and related materials in support of customer training objectives
  • Establish, set and review course content and objectives
  • Develop criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities
  • Maintain records, track participant progress, and regularly update course documentation to ensure timeliness and relevance
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of navigational systems and the ability to provide technical training to technicians onboard Aegis and SSDS MK 2 platforms
  • Ensure units demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills necessary to properly initialize, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the onboard navigational systems IAW CSOSS procedures and technical documentation
