About The Position

This position supports the work of the Records & Certification Unit of the Education & Training Section, Baltimore Police Department. The primary responsibility of the position is to coordinate the Section’s compliance with Public Safety Training Academy Standards promulgated by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED required.
  • Four-year college degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years administrative experience.
  • Experience with accreditation compliance in a law enforcement agency or public safety training academy preferred.

  • Knowledge of methods and procedures for the collection or organization, interpretation, and presentation of information.
  • Ability to adapt and apply the concepts and techniques of administrative analysis to the needs of specific projects.

  • Ability to interpret and apply a variety of laws, rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and present reports or recommendations clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to research and write narrative and statistical reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CALEA, BPD, and city officials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with unit, section, bureau, and agency staff.
  • Ability to effectively utilize PowerDMS, Microsoft Office products, Baltimore City platforms including Workday, and BPD platforms including the Acadis Learning Management System.

Responsibilities

  • Develop proofs of compliance to demonstrate BPD’s adherence to CALEA Public Safety Training Academy accreditation standards.
  • Identify policy and practice gaps that E&T and BPD need to address in order to comply with CALEA Public Safety Training Academy accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with E&T command, E&T staff, and BPD Compliance Division staff to address policy and practice gaps that needed to be filled in order to comply with CALEA Public Safety Training Academy accreditation standards.
  • Maintain documentation that is needed to demonstrate BPD’s ongoing adherence to CALEA Public Safety Training Academy accreditation standards.
  • Communicate and liaise with CALEA staff and CALEA member associations in order to stay up to date regarding changes to CALEA Public Safety Training Academy accreditation standards and CALEA program procedures and practices.
  • Coordinate virtual and in-person reviews by external CALEA assessors.
