About The Position

The Department of Child Safety Training Officer 3 (Classroom Trainer) position is responsible for training essential skills and knowledge for a wide span of positions including the DCS internal workforce, contracted employees, service providers, caregivers and professionals within caregiver agencies. Under direction and oversight of a Classroom Training Supervisor, the Classroom Trainer position primarily delivers in person classroom training and webinar training. Trainers must fully learn and incorporate the principles of adult learning to a workforce that has varying levels of experience and skill sets. Trainers must develop expertise in areas that may or may not reside in that trainer's experience. DCS training curricula goes through a vetted approval process to ensure content is accurate and aligns with DCS policy, core values, state law and child welfare best practices. Trainers learn, memorize and deliver formal DCS approved training curricula as written. Opportunities for telework as a Classroom Trainer are limited. In-state travel in support of these functions is required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Principles of adult learning theory and adult training, including nature of the learning process, learning styles, general curricula design, and effective presentation techniques.
  • Knowledge of: Group dynamics and effective communication approaches with groups.
  • Knowledge of: State child welfare-related laws and judicial decisions; Department policies and procedures, and child welfare best practices related to child welfare.
  • Knowledge of: State's SACWIS system - Guardian, including ability to navigate and trouble shoot problems that arise.
  • Knowledge of: The organizational structure of the Department.
  • Skill in: Written and verbal communication.
  • Skill in: Interpersonal relationships in working with diverse groups.
  • Skill in: Effective classroom management techniques.
  • Skill in: Developing expertise in content areas that are outside the trainer’s past experience.
  • Skill in: Navigation of all related areas of Guardian, and trouble-shoot technological problems that arise in class.
  • Skill in: Delivering training in a way that engages the audience, conveys the concepts, and responds to questions that are asked.

  • Must be able to secure and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card.
  • Must be able to secure and maintain clearance from the DCS/CPS Central Registry.
  • Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.
  • This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, and Driver’s License Requirements apply.
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in social work, psychology, public administration or another social or behavioral science or other acceptable field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 2 or more years of experience with DCS/CPS families as a DCS Specialist or Supervisor.
  • Experience in teaching or training.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in preparation, review, coordination, and delivery of training programs/sessions.
  • Learns and delivers a wide variety of training curricula to DCS employees in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Prepare materials necessary for training in advance, e.g. making copies of Participant Workbooks and additional approved training related materials, audiovisual aids and other related training materials.
  • Prepare physical or virtual training room in advance including but not limited to room set up, equipment set up, clean and tidy training rooms.
  • Troubleshooting of technological equipment and software during training sessions.
  • Ensures that coverage is provided for training sessions.
  • Sets up movement and adjustment of training technology equipment such as LCD (Proxima).
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership team in the planning, development evaluating and alignment for consistency of all training curricula.
  • Assist co-workers with class coverage and preparation.
  • Attends and represents the department at meetings, seminars and conferences.
  • Prepares data and a variety of reports such as training participation and completion rates, training satisfaction surveys, Transfer of Learning efforts, etc.
  • Provides feedback to supervisors, management staff and curriculum developers.
  • Maintain an established work schedule, and arrange for coverage of assigned training segments when sick or otherwise unable to train that class.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
