About The Position

THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF CHILD SAFETY (DCS) IS A SOCIAL AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY WHOSE MISSION IS TO SUCCESSFULLY PARTNER WITH FAMILIES, CAREGIVERS, AND THE COMMUNITY TO STRENGTHEN FAMILIES, ENSURE SAFETY, AND ACHIEVE PERMANENCY FOR ALL ARIZONA’S CHILDREN THROUGH PREVENTION, SERVICES, AND SUPPORT. TRAINING OFFICER 3 - CAREGIVER CLASSROOM TRAINER The Department of Child Safety Training Officer 3 (Caregiver Classroom Trainer) position is responsible for training essential skills and knowledge for a wide span of positions including the DCS internal workforce, contracted employees, service providers, training caregivers in Foster Parent Pre-Service Training and professionals within caregiver agencies. Primarily, this position will train DCS Caregivers. Under direction and oversight of a Caregiver Training Supervisor, the Classroom Trainer position primarily delivers in person classroom training and webinar training. Trainers must fully learn and incorporate the principles of adult learning to a workforce that has varying levels of experience and skill sets. Trainers must develop expertise in areas that may or may not reside in that trainer's experience. DCS training curricula goes through a vetted approval process to ensure content is accurate and aligns with DCS policy, core values, state law and child welfare best practices. Trainers learn, memorize and deliver formal DCS approved training curricula as written. In-state travel is required. Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed. Must be able to work night shifts and weekends.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: - Principles of adult learning theory and adult training, including nature of the learning process, learning styles, general curricula design, and effective presentation techniques - Group dynamics and effective communication approaches with groups - State child welfare-related laws and judicial decisions; Department policies and procedures, and child welfare best practices related to child welfare - State's SACWIS system - Guardian, including ability to navigate and trouble shoot problems that arise - State caregiver agency policy
  • Skill in: - Written and verbal communication - Interpersonal relationships in working with diverse groups - Effective classroom management techniques both in person and webinar - Developing expertise in content areas that are outside the trainer’s past experience. - Navigation of all related areas of Guardian, and trouble-shoot technological problems that arise in class. - Delivering training both in person and webinars in a way that engages the audience, conveys the concepts, and responds to questions that are asked
  • Ability to: - Plan, organize and coordinate training programs Facilitate groups - Interpret and analyze - Adapt to people/situations - Establish and maintain effective working relations with individuals, groups and representatives of diverse populations - Self-starter/takes initiative - Speak in public - Effective oral and written communication - Learn the organizational structure of DCS and L & D - Ability to learn foster care licensing rules, Title 21
  • Must be able to secure and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card.
  • Must be able to secure and maintain clearance from the DCS Central Registry.
  • Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.
  • This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, and the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Administration, or another relevant social or behavioral science from an accredited college or university.
  • The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience with the Department of Child Services (DCS) and/or at least two years of experience working for a Caregiver Licensing agency, including experience in training or facilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in preparation, review, coordination, and delivery of training programs/sessions.
  • Learns and delivers a wide variety of training curricula to DCS employees in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Prepare data and a variety of reports such as training participation and completion rates, training satisfaction surveys, Transfer of Learning efforts, etc.
  • Prepare materials necessary for training in advance,
  • Prepare physical or virtual training room in advance including but not limited to room set up, equipment set up, clean and tidy training rooms.
  • Troubleshooting of technological equipment and software during training sessions. Maintain in person and virtual classroom management of 5 - 50+ participants. Collaborate with team members and leadership team in the planning, development evaluating and alignment for consistency of all training curricula.
  • Assist co-workers with class coverage and preparation.
