This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. The Mission Operations Training Team in Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence program is looking for a new member to help with our charter to train Flight Controllers, Astronauts, and other Mission Team members to land and operate the next generation of hardware on the lunar surface. To do this we need a team of multi-talented professionals who can wear multiple hats and work at a high pace, having an outsized impact on the lunar program. The team’s area of responsibility spans architecting the Training Simulation architecture, to astronaut training mockup design and building, to instructional design for training classes, and hosting/conducting the training itself. As a Training Hardware & Test Engineer on this team you will be tasked with the operation, maintenance, and development projects associated with the training mockups and assets in Houston. This role will include a wide variety of autonomous projects involving simulation integrated hardware design installation, hardware maintenance and troubleshooting, and support users during human-in-the-loop testing. This role will require interfacing with our NASA customer to help define training facility requirements, and prospective candidates shall exhibit high degree of task flexibility and willingness to learn, as tasks can range from IT, to audio visual systems support, to soldering, to 3D printing, to test engineering, to instructional design, and more. We are a very small team in Houston and take ownership of all aspects of training operations! Special Mentions: Travel expected up to 10% of the time

Requirements

  • Minimum of BS degree in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent professional work
  • At least 2 years relevant full-time experience
  • Experience (professionally or personally) with use of tools for crafting, manufacturing, assembling or maintenance of mechanical or structural systems
  • Willingness to quickly learn new skills and gain experience with a wide range of technical tasks including hardware, software, and process design
  • Highly organized, with demonstrated ability to plan and direct complex technical work

  • Experience with Test Readiness Reviews
  • Experience with training individuals conducting high consequence operations
  • Experience with high complexity mockups and training hardware

Responsibilities

  • Design of components in CAD software (such as Creo)
  • Working with mockup manufacturers to ensure appropriate install and integration of complex high fidelity mockup components
  • Light electronics/soldering work
  • Maintenance of the Blue Moon Landing and MK2 Astronaut Training Mockup in Johnson Space Center
  • Test procedure and process development
  • Operation of mockup systems during tests and training
  • Producing models and parts using 3D printers
