About The Position

This is a non-exempt position, which is responsible for administrative and supervisory work as the direct assistant to the Battalion Chief of Training within the Training Division. Under the direction of the Fire Chief and Battalion Chief of Training, this position is a 40 hour-a-week position with a modified schedule, including nights and weekends. An employee in this classification is accountable for coordinating the training and maintaining the personnel training records of the Suppression members within the Department. This employee supervises personnel, plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates all fire suppression and safety training programs for the Department. Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree (preferable AS in Fire Science) with ten (10) years of work experience in a Fire Department or fifteen (15) years of work experience in the Plantation Fire Department.
  • Must hold the rank of Lieutenant for a minimum of two (2) years.
  • State Certified Fire Fighter II.
  • Fire Instructor II.
  • Live Fire Training Instructor.
  • Florida EMT required, Paramedic is preferred.
  • Certified BLS Instructor.
  • ESLI.
  • Fire Officer 1.
  • Appropriate NIMS related training commensurate with Declared Emergency Response designation, including IS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 (or ability to obtain within one year).
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, schedules and participates in officer development and new personnel training programs to develop and increase the knowledge and skills.
  • Evaluates baseline skills of division personnel, provides gap analysis and makes recommendations to develop and improve suppression related training.
  • Advises and assists all instructors in formulating training plans and curriculum development and the application of effective teaching methods.
  • Observes and evaluates all instructors; develops plans to increase their personal effectiveness and knowledge.
  • Develops and revises training manuals, presentations, guidelines and other tools used in training.
  • Instructs or supervises coordinated training, which will include evening and weekend hours.
  • Researches, prepares and forwards budget requests.
  • Supervises and maintains all personnel's certificates and designations requiring recertification through Broward County, the state of Florida or any other designated organizations.
  • Generates related statistical reports and presents reports to staff.
  • Prepares and generates any required reports for department certifications and accreditations.
  • Available to respond, only when requested, to major incidents and assists the incident command in a non-combat position.
  • Performs related work as required and as directed by the Battalion Chief of Training or the Fire Chief.
