About The Position

The Training and Safety Specialist at UW Facilities is responsible for onboarding new staff, conducting training sessions, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This role serves as a key liaison between various departments and focuses on fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace culture. The specialist will manage training programs, evaluate employee performance, and lead initiatives aimed at improving job satisfaction and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in training or adult education.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft 365 (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong communication and conflict management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills for creating training materials.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Maintain confidentiality and work with discretion and tact.
  • Flexibility to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-starter capable of working in an unstructured environment.
  • Ability to speak to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of training experience with the ability to determine training needs.
  • Experience working with custodial services or facility services departments.
  • Familiarity with University and Facilities policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Onboard newly hired staff through classroom and field training.
  • Develop and conduct hands-on refresher training on equipment and cleaning procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and department policies and regulations.
  • Maintain and update Employee Orientation Procedures with guidance from UWF Partner Resources.
  • Lead training sessions for newly hired staff, including classroom sessions and job-specific training.
  • Conduct individual or group training as requested, including regulatory and annual refresher training.
  • Stay current with occupational health and safety regulations and maintain safety standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between UWF Safety, EH&S, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Measure and evaluate progress related to onboarding, training, and retention of staff.
  • Direct initiatives related to development, belonging, DEI, and job satisfaction.
