About The Position

The Trainer - Rail Operations position at North County Transit District is responsible for delivering and implementing training programs focused on rail operations. This role requires strong instructional knowledge and the ability to train employees on operating rules and equipment maintenance, ensuring a competent workforce that meets regulatory standards. The position involves collaboration with the Rail Division and oversight of training processes, making it essential for maintaining high-quality service delivery.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in freight or passenger railroad operations.
  • Qualified as a Locomotive Engineer and Conductor.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching railroad operating staff.
  • Experience delivering training in a classroom setting preferred.
  • Possess and maintain a California driver's license, Class C.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain annual access to Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain DOT physical examination requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in both commuter and light rail domains.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety concepts and program development.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements training programs, including curriculum, lesson plans, and testing materials.
  • Conducts training for employees on passenger and hybrid rail operations service delivery.
  • Schedules courses and facilitates necessary equipment for training delivery.
  • Maintains course content accuracy and ensures compliance with regulations.
  • Updates instructional procedures and program content as needed.
  • Monitors trainee progress and provides counseling and evaluations.
  • Maintains documentation on training and testing in accordance with policies and regulations.
  • Conducts evaluations and proposes improvements to training processes.
  • Continuously updates personal subject matter expertise and participates in cross-functional teams.
  • Develops training programs to address operational concerns and deficiencies.
  • Assists in training other areas as needed.
  • Prepares for and participates in audits by regulatory agencies.
  • Performs duties related to Locomotive Engineer and Conductor certifications.
  • Completes check rides on rail operations employees for certification and coaching.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
