About The Position

The position is for a Physician Extender in the Orthopedics department at Advocate Health. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge in spreadsheet and word processing.
  • NATA certified, and current Illinois licensure or eligible.
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • Completion of Orthopedic Technologist Certification within 12 months from hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and instructs patients in individual Home Exercise Programs (HEP).
  • Provides individual instruction and education on return-to-sports.
  • Encourages questions from patients and family, offering guidance to foster adherence to treatment plans.
  • Measures, fits, and modifies braces, including custom braces.
  • Administers gait training with assistive devices.
  • Orders radiology tests, lab tests, or referrals under the direction of the provider.
  • Reports on patient complaints or concerns.
  • Explains procedures and test results using language appropriate to the patient's level of understanding.
  • Serves as an advocate and liaison between patients, staff, providers, and external customers.
  • Performs additional orthopedic technical requirements such as cast application/removal and post-op dressing applications.
  • Documents patient information, care, histories, progress notes, and concerns in the EMR.
  • Prepares patients for exams and treatments, including rooming patients and obtaining patient history.
  • Assists primary care sports medicine physician with procedures and treatments.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Covers schools or venues to meet contractual obligations.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
