About The Position

The Trails Construction Crew Member works cooperatively with the full-time CMEA crew to complete trail projects in the field.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license under the laws of the State of Ohio preferred but not required.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Working knowledge of safely operating power and hand-tools.
  • Ability to perform trail construction and maintenance work in a variety of terrain, carrying and lifting 50 pounds or more and hiking up to 3 miles.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic are required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience building trails and operating power and hand-tools preferred.
  • Experience with chainsaw, rigging/griphoist, carpentry, gardening, or trail work preferred.
  • Housing may be available

Responsibilities

  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Uses traditional trail skills, restoration techniques, carpentry skills, and physical labor including the use of hand tools while working cooperatively with crew members to complete an array of projects across the Park District, including trail construction and maintenance, building rock stairs, carpentry, bridge construction, invasive vegetation removal, and restoration of impacted sites.
  • Completes training and adheres to Cleveland Metroparks trails standards, practices, and expectations.
  • Performs field work, interaction with the public, and related functions in a responsible manner that reflects well on Cleveland Metroparks.
  • Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
