About The Position

Smoker Craft, Inc currently has an opening for Trailer Mechanic ! This position works from our plant in New Paris, IN. Trailer Mechanic s starting pay is $28.31/hr. and with positive reviews can be increased to $30.31/hr. after 60 days . Shift Schedule is 5 am to 2 pm, Monday-Friday. Job Summary: Trailer Mechanic performs a variety of preventative maintenance tasks on our fleet trailers. Trailer Mechanic is a mechanical professional with knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and ABS brake systems. Welding or fabrication experience is also a plus, as these techniques often come in handy when making repairs on trailers.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED certificate
Completion of a certificate program or technical training in mechanics and truck repair
Knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and ABS brake systems preferred
Experience with various hand tools
Valid driver s license
Physical strength and stamina
Welding or fabrication experience (preferred)
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in medium to heavy-duty trailer repairs.
The ability to demonstrate successful welding skills in non-standard situations and on varying materials is a plus.
Demonstrate diagnostic and troubleshooting competency relating to equipment repairs.
Valid driver s license with CDL preferred or ability to obtain one. Clean MVR (motor vehicle record).

Responsibilities

Diagnoses and repairs medium to heavy-duty trailers, including preventative maintenance, inspections, repair to air and hydraulic brakes, warranty procedures, ABS systems, suspension, electrical and trailer body repairs with safety as the top priority.
Ensures all trailers meet company and DOT requirements and codes
Identifies, diagnoses and resolves trailer related issues.
Performs preventive maintenance on trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
Remains technically proficient in all areas including trailer and basic parts administration.
Performs general or routine welding with or without prints.
Uses effective interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationships with team members, including company drivers.
Contributes to the goals of the shop, leadership team and company.
Utilizes appropriate resources, such as the parts manual and computer, service bulletins and other resources to research problems, determine most effective and efficient method for repairs and locate parts.
Documents work order details within the company s internal order and billing program.
Ensures proper documentation is complete, including permits, repair orders, filing, etc.
Abides by all company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and take appropriate actions, recommend process changes, and initiate improvements.
Be self-motivated, able, and willing to work independently while motivating team efforts.
Works additional hours in accordance with business needs and other demands of the position.
