About The Position

This position is for EPES Transport, LLC., a division of Penske Logistics, based in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Trailer Inspector is responsible for inspecting all trailers or containers entering the yard. This Position is located in Franklin, VA The Shift rotates Weekly Monday - Friday: Week 1 5am - 2pm, Week 2 6am - 3pm, week 3 7am - 4pm

  • Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide service to inspect all trailers prior to trailers being spotted to the dock for loading. Trailers failing inspection per company standards will be communicated to the PS&D Department as being in reject status. Mill will provide an onsite cleanout dumpster.
  • Enter pertinent trailer, trucking company, truck information into IP system on all trailers entering or exiting the IP yard.
  • Provide the following daily trailer pool yard checks: - One (1) time per day Monday through Friday at no later than 7am, a complete trailer yard-check verifying against a Trailer Pool Report provided by the Mill Transportation Department. - One (1) time per day Monday through Friday at 3pm , an empty trailer check verifying against an Empty Trailer Report provided by the Mill Transportation Department. - One (1) time per day, an empty trailer check verifying against an Empty Trailer Report provided by the Mill Transportation Department.
  • Ensure that the drop yard remains clear (i.e., no trailer congestion).
  • Ensure trailers are dropped at the proper height and tandems are slid all the way to the rear to enable carrier’s tractors to fit under trailers. Should trailers be improperly spotted, the SWITCHER shall be responsible to correct the problem at no additional cost to IP.
  • Observe that only the owning carrier may authorize SWITCHER to remove its equipment from the mill property. Any deviation from these instructions or evidence of tampering with carrier’s equipment must be reported to the appropriate IP personnel.
  • Obtain executed equipment Interchange Agreements with each carrier serving Franklin mill and may not move equipment of any carrier with which it does not have such an agreement.
