Traffic Engineering Operations needs a reliable teammate to handle Colorado 811 requests without constant supervision. Real people depend on those traffic signals and street lights staying powered through every storm. Telling the truth about where lines actually sit keeps construction crews safe and neighbors happy. Best practices require triple-checking GIS data before painting a single mark on the pavement. Treating every contractor and resident with common courtesy ensures projects stay on track. Walking through fresh snow or summer heat beats sitting in a cubicle all day. The Traffic Utility Locator responds to Colorado 811 locate requests for the Traffic Engineering Operations divisions. Individuals must be able to work independently, have computer skills to close out locate requests, and have knowledge of utilities that are found at Traffic Signals. The hiring range for this role is $23.96-$29.94/hour. Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of related maintenance experience including reading and interpreting construction drawings.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of confined space entry procedures Practice and techniques of assigned maintenance functions. Knowledge of various types of utility lines. Knowledge of GIS.
  • Skills: Skill in the use of Microsoft Office, and competence in most common computer tasks. Basic drafting/drawing skills.
  • Abilities: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, elected officials, and citizens. Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time. Understand oral and written instructions. Read and interpret construction plans and mapping systems. Measuer, locate, and mark underground utility locations based on plan information and records. Communicate location information and resolve conflicts with field construction.

Responsibilities

  • Locates a combination power, output feeds/cables, and communications conduit for traffic signals and street lights.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with customers and contractors.
  • Maintains and updates records; reads and interprets maps and construction drawings to mark utility lines within the accuracy requirements of State laws.
  • Conducts field meetings with contractors or customers and other representatives from outside agencies and coordinates the location of utility lines.
  • Creates charts and drawings displaying various utility lines using GIS and other computer software.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
