Step into Your New Role Kleinfelder is seeking a Traffic Technician to support the Traffic Engineering Department with collecting field data. This position will report to our Augusta, ME office and will require travel to the following counties: Androscoggin Waldo Kennebec Oxford Franklin

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Knowledge of PC-based computer systems.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to repair tubes and program counter box.
  • Good written and oral expression in English.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with traffic and roadway safety.
  • Fundamental math skills include ability to measure and record linear measurements.
  • Current and valid state driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Physically fit and able to handle some heavy lifting.
  • Field work requires bending and lifting 10‑50 lbs., as well as operating hand and power tools (Hammers, crowbar).

Nice To Haves

  • Flagger Training Certification.
  • Understanding of basic practices and principles, techniques and/or terminology of traffic count data collection.
  • Competence in data processing and using technical software.
  • Familiarity with/use of count equipment and/or tablet systems.
  • Strong electronics and computer skills for configurations and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Performing manual vehicle counts at intersections.
  • Frequent driving to project/client sites to complete tasks or attend meetings.
  • Staging rubber tubes in road to count traffic.
  • Deploying traffic count equipment/cameras at intersections.
  • Compiling sketches, digital photographs, and other field data information.
  • Conducting general traffic observations and other factors influencing traffic conditions, under direction of senior traffic technician or engineer.
  • Operating, maintaining and repairing field equipment.
  • Tracking and reporting recurring equipment failures.
  • Downloading and processing collected data.
