About The Position

The Clark County Public Works Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Traffic Systems Technician Supervisor position. This position supervises a team of Traffic Systems Technicians and oversees the maintenance of existing traffic signals, school flashers, activation of new signals, and other related duties. In addition, the selected candidate will respond to emergency calls. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources. Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process. Some positions may be confidential positions and are excluded from membership in the union. Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of a Technician or Technologist Diploma Program.
  • Five (5) years of skilled full-time experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic and electrical equipment.
  • One (1) year of full-time lead or supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a field related to electronics preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Class B Nevada driver's license at time of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid IMSA Level III certification.
  • Some positions may require a crane operator's certification through the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) within twenty-four (24) months from the date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of a group of traffic signal technicians.
  • Recommends selection of staff.
  • Trains staff and provides for their professional development.
  • Administers discipline as required.
  • Reviews prints for traffic signal projects and ensures that they meet County and legal standards.
  • Interfaces with and reviews contractor work to ensure that work is done to County specifications.
  • Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Requisitions additional as required.
  • Responds to traffic signal malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoots the problem and effects repairs.
  • Participates in the design, layout, modification, and installation of traffic control systems, controllers and related system elements, including solid state digital and micro processing systems.
  • Prepares working drawings and sketches.
  • Assists in preparing project specifications.
  • Estimates materials, parts, tools and equipment needed for work assignments.
  • Orders and picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate.
  • Prepares cost estimates for job.
  • Performs skilled traffic systems work such as the installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Performs field and bench tests on electrical and electronic circuitry and various components.
  • Marks line locations at traffic signal and system sites for contractors and utilities to prevent damage to equipment in accordance with the Call Before You Dig program.
  • Reads diagrams, blueprints, specifications and manuals for installation and repair projects.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Maintains accurate signal records, including maintenance and repair records.
  • Drives County vehicles to work sites and transports materials as required.
  • May work from lift trucks, ladders and other elevating devices.
