  • Conducts on-site verification inspections of goods and services provided by vendors and contractors.
  • Designs, builds, tests and installs specialized equipment which cannot be purchased from the signal equipment industry.
  • Develops budgets and monitors stock accounts and equipment inventories
  • Develops short- and long- term plans for upgrading and modifying traffic signals, signs and illumination systems; coordinates with district design staff to develop solutions to traffic problems.
  • Diagnoses, tests and repairs control systems, video systems and/or communication equipment including cable, short-haul modems, dial-up modems, radio transmitters, receivers and multiplexing equipment.
  • Ensures proper traffic control procedures and safety precautions are used at construction sites to preclude traffic congestion and accidents; identifies utility locations and directs use of proper equipment.

  • Plans and schedules repairs, inspections, installation and future modifications on electronic equipment and systems and associated hardware and software; coordinates with public/private entities.
  • Tests new traffic signal equipment such as intersection monitoring equipment, intelligent transportation systems and time-based coordinated systems by operating and burning in system at shop, inspecting wiring and checking solder connections.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Directs inspection of the work of traffic systems and ITS technicians.
  • Investigates background of public complaints concerning traffic signal and illumination problems; recommends solutions and provides information on progress to solve problems.
  • Monitors training of traffic technicians/specialists in traffic technology and various aspects of traffic systems, including electronics and the use of technical data to repair equipment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in any discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Traffic Systems Admin I: 2 years construction, electronic troubleshooting, electrical construction/installation, electromechanical, traffic systems maintenance/management, transportation engineering, design, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Traffic Systems Admin I: Must have 1 year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Traffic Systems Admin II: 3 years construction, electronic troubleshooting, electrical construction/installation, electromechanical, traffic systems maintenance/management, transportation engineering, design, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Traffic Systems Admin II: Must have 2 year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions.
  • Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
