The Work You Will Do: Traffic Specialist III / District 1/ Traffic Operations/ Traffic Services This position will perform Engineering analysis and review of traffic and crash data for operational traffic requests, such as changes to signing, pavement marking and signal operations. This includes field assessments, applying engineering principles and judgement to identify operational and safety deficiencies and appropriate remedial action. Assist in the review of plan submittals generated by the department and other entities. Participate in meetings with internal and external customers to represent Traffic Operations interests. Requirements

  • Knowledge of Traffic engineering concepts, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques.
  • Knowledge of The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation standards, manuals, guidelines and practices
  • Skills in The use of personal computers and a variety of engineering software.
  • Skills in Communication includes written, verbal and effective listening.
  • Ability to Read and interpet plans, specifications, design standards, and manuals.
  • Ability to Apply engineering concepts, practices and functions.
  • Ability to Input and retrieve information from a computer database.
  • Ability to Collect, analyze, and interpret engineering data.
  • Ability to Work independently and make decisions.
  • Ability to Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • A high school diploma and two years of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience; or An associate of arts or science degree in engineering technology and one year of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience; or A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering; or Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and has an Engineer in Trainee (EIT) certification in either Florida or another State; or An active International Municipal and Signal Association (IMSA) Sign and Pavement Marking certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering analysis and review of traffic and crash data for operational traffic requests, such as changes to signing, pavement marking and signal operations.
  • Develop traffic engineering reports and associated documents (work orders, traffic studies, sign designs, etc.)
  • Coordinates and responds to local officials, their representatives, and the general public on such requests.
  • Utilizing the Department's Microstation and Geopak Computer Aided Drafting and Design programs and other software as needed, design and prepare scaled drawing plan sheets for use in implementing traffic operations projects on the State Highway System.
  • Assist in the review of plan submittals generated by the Department and other entities.
  • Participate in meetings with internal and external customers to represent Traffic Operations interests.
  • Assist with various contract management duties to include the oversight and administration of various contracts relevant to the District Traffic Operations Office.
  • Create new entries and maintain up-to-date information on the Signing and Pavement Marking SharePoint site and the Traffic Operations Customer Tracking System.
