About The Position

Under general direction, supervise employees and manage maintenance operations related to the installation, maintenance, operation, and upgrade of the City's traffic signs and pavement markings, and to perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Experience in the application of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Proficiency in the use of a microcomputer and associated operational systems.
  • Traffic control device and work zone safety certifications.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Transportation, Civil, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience working with GIS based asset management software.
  • Experience supervising a sign shop or signs/pavement markings installation crew.

Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance operations related to the installation, maintenance, operation, and upgrade of the City's traffic signs and pavement markings.
  • Generate precise electronic work orders directing the installation of new signs or pavement markings and the replacement of existing signs or pavement markings.
  • Assist in analyzing the condition and placement of traffic signs and pavement markings to establish and prioritize installation and/or modification.
  • Incorporate prioritized needs into both short-range and long-range work plans for the Sign Shop.
  • Address resident and employee concerns, responding to complaints and mediating discussions.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and fellow employees.
  • Assist Transportation staff in executing the annual street overlay project.
  • Provide cost estimates, order materials, and distribute to sub-contractors.
  • Review all pavement markings to ensure installation per city and manufacturers standards.
  • Solicit bids and hire contractors for related services.
  • Manage all signing or pavement marking contracted work.
  • Coordinate with county and state agencies to resolve multi-jurisdictional signing or striping issues.
  • Manage the City of Boulder/Colorado Department of Transportation traffic control device maintenance contract.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of city-specific traffic control device standards.
  • Respond to all claims related to the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
  • Supervise and manage traffic signs and markings maintenance crews.
  • Monitor and evaluate employees’ performances and provide ongoing instruction.
  • Develop and manage operating budgets for work areas.
  • Order and purchase all signing and pavement marking materials, supplies, and equipment.

  • Full Pay Range: $77,417.60 - $112,153.60
