The Traffic Signal Technician position within the Traffic Engineering Division of Broward County offers a rewarding opportunity to work in the Public Works Department. This role involves the installation and maintenance of electronic traffic control devices, responding to emergency situations, and assisting in training signal crew members. The technician will work independently under general supervision, developing work methods and sequences while ensuring the functionality and safety of traffic signals and related equipment.

  • Assembles, installs, services, tests, repairs, and adjusts electrical and mechanical components of traffic signal and related equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on traffic signals, including cleaning and oiling controller mechanisms, checking relays, and replacing signal bulbs and lenses.
  • Installs and maintains overhead traffic signs and operates necessary equipment for the installation of traffic control devices.
  • Responds to trouble calls from central dispatch or supervisor, troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions at job sites.
  • Reports and inputs tasks completed from assignments or trouble reports.
  • Requires one (1) year in electrical maintenance work or closely related experience.
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Permit is required at the time of hire.
  • A valid "Class B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
  • Associates Degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Possession of an IMSA Level II and/or Level III certificate.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in traffic signals maintenance work.
