About The Position

The Traffic Signal and Lighting Technician position at the City of St. Charles is responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of traffic signal and street lighting systems. This role involves performing diagnostic testing, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety standards while providing guidance for traffic control at city-managed job sites and events.

Requirements

• Knowledgeable of direct current low voltage and single and triple phase AC electric systems.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience working on traffic signals, street lighting, or similar electrical systems preferred.
• Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes and tanker endorsements required.
• Department of Transportation Medical Examiner's Certification required.
• Computer skills and knowledge using Microsoft Office programs.

Nice To Haves

• Licensed Electrician preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain City owned traffic signals, street lighting, electrical signage, high mast lighting, and high mast cameras.
• Perform diagnostic testing, installation, scheduled maintenance, and emergency repairs to traffic signals and street lighting.
• Provide guidance for traffic control at City managed job sites and special events, including setup and delivery of traffic control devices.
• Maintain comprehensive inventory of critical parts and tools for traffic control devices and street signage.
• Retain accurate records of work orders and service manuals.
• Identify new technologies and processes to improve service delivery.
• Continue training and certification programs to improve technical knowledge and skills.
• Adhere to safety standards and procedures, including mandatory participation in on-call schedules and emergency operations.
