About The Position

Professional occupational safety work responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Traffic Division's Strategic Safety Plan. Responsible for conducting ongoing comprehensive safety inspections and reviewing compliance audits in an effort to reduce or eliminate hazards that potentially lead to occupational injuries and illnesses. Coordinates safety classes for 6 (six) sections/shops within the Division, consisting of approximately 90 employees, and ensures certification is up to date for all employees. May be responsible for assigning, coordinating, and directing the work of others. Work requires independent judgment and is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior through conferences and observations of results achieved

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Industrial or Safety Engineering, or related field; minimum of three (3) years of professional occupational safety experience, which includes one (1) year of related experience in the construction, public works, or utility industry.
  • Equivalencies: Unrelated Bachelor's Degree/related Associate's Degree and five (5) years of related experience, which includes one (1) year of related experience in the construction, public works, or utility industry OR graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification and seven (7) years of related experience, which includes one (1) year of related experience in the construction, public works, or utility industry.
  • SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG TESTING.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.
  • Hearing Loss Test required for selected candidate.

  • Conducting post-accident investigations
  • Possession of Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • Knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)/Health Department laws, rules, and regulations
  • Possession of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) #501 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry and/or OSHA #500 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction certifications
  • Certificates from any training courses such as but not limited to: Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Training, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Electrical Training, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), Risk Management training (CPR, Defensive Driving, Fall Protection, Forklift, Heavy Equipment, Bucket Truck Aerial/Crane, etc.) and/or any OSHA training courses (Copies of certificates must be uploaded to online application).
