About The Position

This position is accountable for the development and implementation of design standards, specifications, special provisions and programs relating to traffic signing and pavement marking contracts prepared by the districts; the development of contract plans for statewide traffic signing and pavement marking projects; and other programs affecting statewide traffic operations.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of engineering experience; OR Eight years of engineering experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires occasional travel.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience in highway construction plans and contracts development.
  • Previous experience in highway construction inspection and documentation.
  • Previous experience in project programming and budgeting.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff and contractors.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps abreast of current traffic, design and construction policies and procedures to ensure that the department is providing the motoring public the best signs and pavement markings available with economy of installation and maintenance.
  • Reviews and recommends approval of traffic signing and pavement marking plans for inclusion on contract lettings.
  • Prepares for letting and administers annual Statewide Freeway Sign Maintenance, Sign Structure Repair and High-Type Pavement Marking Contracts.
  • Develops the Bureau of Operations’ traffic contracts program.
  • Maintains the Bureau of Operations’ Approved Pavement Marking Contractors list.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
