About The Position

The Traffic Signs and Markings Technician is responsible for installing and maintaining parking and traffic control signs, as well as laying out and painting pavement markings, curb zones, parking lot spaces, and street lines using various equipment. This position works under the general supervision of the Traffic Operations Supervisor and receives daily work direction from the Lead Traffic Signs and Markings Technician Painter. The role involves coordinating and monitoring the work activities of Trade Interns and other staff as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Two years of recent, paid work experience performing traffic sign installation and maintenance, including street painting.
  • Knowledge of sign types, installation methods, and street painting materials.
  • Ability to follow safety rules and regulations.
  • Skill in operating hand and power tools and heavy power equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Public sector experience is desirable.
  • Possession of a valid level II Signs and Markings certificate from T.C.S.A. or I.M.S.A.

Responsibilities

  • Measures and lays out areas to erect or place signs per assigned work orders and verbal instructions.
  • Installs & removes sign posts and associated base or foundation using a variety of hand, power and/or motorized equipment.
  • Operates a bucket truck and uses ladders to remove and install signs.
  • Measures and lays out areas to be painted including crosswalks and curb zones.
  • Paints and installs linear and transverse markings on City streets and parking facilities.
  • Applies thermoplastic preform pavement markings.
  • Operates equipment to grind off existing pavement markings.
  • Mixes paint and cleans/maintains spray paint equipment and brushes.
  • Assists skilled trades with large or complex projects.
  • Prepares and maintains logs and records using a utility database system.
  • Prepares tools, equipment, and materials for assigned work.
  • Maintains stored materials in an organized manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
