About The Position

AECOM Is seeking a Traffic Monitoring Center Lead in Pompano Beach, Florida. The Candidate shall be qualified in all aspects of the Freeway Operations area and Control Room activities, as demonstrated through continued improvement by methods of evaluation and practical experiences including the department’s TMC operations skills assessments. A candidate placed into this classification will be required to assist the TMC Shift Supervisors with identified special projects, including training and special event coordination. These roles will have a specialization in leadership of operational staff, training curriculums & activities, quality control & assurance functions, and/or construction & mobility management functions. The responsibilities of the Traffic Monitoring Center Lead include: Works under limited supervision performing both simple and potentially complex tasks. Takes lead role in work-flow coordination. Monitoring the roadways, including detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic events and congestion with ITS devices such as closed circuit TV, detectors, etc. Act like an emergency dispatcher within a control room environment dispatching Road Rangers via a two-way radio system to assist motorists, respond to events and other activities that require timely and efficient responses. Communicates with managers, operations/project managers and department leads to provide status updates, ascertain needs within the control room operation and provide solutions to issues. Supports the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Work on special assignments, tasks, reports and presentations. Assist in the research and development of presentations, technical memos and studies. Attend internal and external meetings to represent the Transportation Management Center. Actively reviews maintenance and operational activities for accuracy and appropriateness, providing guidance and feedback to staff as needed. Assume operations leadership role in absence of supervisor/manager. Contribute to accurate and timely after-action reports for high-impact incidents and events. Perform other duties as needed by turnpike leadership and onsite management/supervision. Assists with special event planning and setup. Effectively supports the recruitment, selection, on-boarding and training/mentoring process for employment candidates. Participate in the process of developing and maintaining training materials. Advise and assist with TMC outreach within the community and client stakeholder networks. Provide leadership & direction to TMC staff members to support & assist them in carrying out their assignments. Mentors current staff and new hires on procedures and policies. Monitor performance data, including dashboards, performance measures reporting and other resources to support operational improvements and staff development. Promote a positive work environment within the TMC staff. Be a positive influence to those you work and interact with. Always represent self & AECOM in a professional manner. All other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • HS/GED Equivalent + 2 or more years prior experience as Traffic Monitoring Operator or other relevant experience.
  • Must be able to synthesize information from multiple, diverse, and simultaneous inputs.
  • Must pass a state and federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Florida Department of Transportation fingerprint-based screening.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time monitoring Intelligent Transportation Systems such CCTV camera displays, meters, law enforcement radio broadcasts, answering/responding to calls and communicating to staff or partner agencies.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other monitoring equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or greater in a relatable discipline; or practical experience in a similar role; 1+ years working in a leadership capacity; experience in traffic management or emergency services.
  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills for in-person, radio, and phone conversations.
  • Experience in leading, mentoring, and evaluating personnel.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and people skills.
  • Proficient use of computers, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and audio/visual equipment.
