About The Position

The Traffic Management Specialist, Control Room Operator position at the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) involves monitoring and managing traffic operations from the Traffic Operations Center (TOC) Control Room. This temporary, part-time role is essential for ensuring traffic flow and safety by covering shifts for full-time operators. The position requires flexibility in working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and may lead to a full-time career service position in the future.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage traffic and disseminate traffic information to maximize traffic flow and increase safety.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Traffic Information Specialist, Control Room Engineer, Control Room Manager, and Deputy Manager.
  • Assist the Shift Supervisor as UDOT's Incident Manager for all Level 1 classified incidents.
  • Coordinate with media, the Department of Public Safety, and Community Relations during incidents.
  • Communicate and coordinate with all UDOT regions, the Incident Management Team, and the Utah Highway Patrol.
  • Ensure safety standards and quality assurance processes are followed during incidents or weather situations.
  • Make decisions in accordance with UDOT's Comprehensive Incident Management Plan.
  • Participate in after-action reviews and training exercises, generating reports and documentation.
  • Serve as a contact for public information requests and complaints made to the TOC.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and data regarding traffic incidents.
