About The Position

We are seeking Traffic Management Center (TMC) Operators Level 1-4 to join our TMC Practice in Austin, TX , r eporting to the TMC Operations Manager, to support vendor operated TMC functions for the TxDOT Austin District. TMC staff will operate, monitor, and manage activity on the roadways in the Austin District a t the Combined Transportation, Emergency, and Communications Center (CTECC). This traffic management center is a 24/7/365 operation which requires schedule flexibility, including availability for nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Your role Use Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) software to: Control and monitor field devices such as cameras, dynamic message signs (DMS), wrong way driver detection, and any other technology; and Monitor video images for the detection and verification of crashes, debris, abandoned or disabled vehicles, and hazardous or non-hazardous spills; and Log incidents, construction and maintenance closures; and Monitor system generated response plans and accept or override; and Log time-based components of incident timeline; and Post and update DMS messages alerting motorists of incidents and impact. Dispatch and communicate with all incident management personnel and HERO safety service patrol to the locations of road hazards and crashes, providing clear directions to the location and an accurate description of an incident as advised by citizens, public safety entities, department personnel, or ITS software. Provide information to motorists, TxDOT personnel, or other agencies on traffic and road conditions; direct calls to appropriate personnel in traffic operations or take action as necessary. Monitor public facing police and fire CAD (computer aided dispatch) systems, Rekor, Waze, and Google maps to detect incidents. Communicate with internal and external partners. Answer all after hour calls for TxDOT Austin District, documenting communication and dispatching the necessary personnel. Be prepared to work additional hours or shifts in support of weather and special events.

Requirements

  • Operator must have 3 years of experience, including 1 year within the past 3 years, in the following:
  • Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Proven analysis experience in freeway management system concepts and operations, traffic flow principles and procedures, electrical/electronic and design procedures, applicable Traffic Management Systems related computer applications and operations and implementing emergency response procedures.
  • Worked in a high-paced and high-pressure environments.
  • Prioritized tasks providing customer service using excellent communication skills, via radio, phone, and emails.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must have good command of the English language.
  • Must compose clear and concise sentences that include all pertinent information without spelling or grammatical errors.
  • Client requirements: Candidates must successfully complete the client’s background screening process, which includes a fingerprint‑based, nationwide criminal history check conducted in accordance with FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) standards. All offers of employment are contingent upon passing the client background screening process.
  • Level 1 Operator – Trainee must meet minimum qualifications outlined above
  • Level 2 Operator – Operator must meet the qualifications of Level 1 Trainee, have completed required TxDOT training specific to their job category, and have a minimum of one year of state DOT TMC Operator experience
  • Level 3 Operator – Operator must meet the requirements of Level 2, with a minimum of 2 years of state DOT TMC Operator experience
  • Level 4 Operator – Operator must meet the requirements of Level 3, and have significant experience monitoring and reporting on some, if not all, of the following: managed lanes, secondary incidents, wrong way driving, construction event management, and stalled/abandoned vehicles.
