About The Position

AECOM is seeking a talented and motivated Mid-Level Traffic Engineer to support a Traffic Management Center (TMC) in Indianapolis, Indiana. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment focused on real-time traffic operations, system performance, and congestion management. Requirements

  • BA/BS and 4 years of relevant experience demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in traffic engineering with emphasis on traffic signal operations, timing, and system performance.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Indiana or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience supporting Traffic Management Center (TMC) or Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) programs.
  • Strong experience with traffic signal timing, coordination, and optimization across large signal networks.
  • Familiarity with traffic analysis tools and real-time traffic monitoring systems.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams and external clients.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage real-time traffic operations within a Traffic Management Center environment.
  • Analyze traffic conditions and identify performance issues related to incidents, congestion, and signal operations.
  • Coordinate with operations and engineering teams to implement traffic signal timing adjustments and alternate timing plans.
  • Support deployment and optimization of timing plans across a large network of interconnected traffic signals.
  • Perform traffic engineering analyses, including operational assessments and system performance evaluations.
  • Gather, review, and interpret traffic data using established tools and methodologies.
  • Identify discrepancies in data and system performance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare technical documentation including reports, memoranda, and operational summaries.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers and support staff.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to support traffic operations and project delivery.
  • Ensure assigned work is completed on schedule and within budget while adhering to AECOM quality standards.
  • Independently perform tasks required to support primary traffic engineering and operational initiatives.
