About The Position

Traffic Instrumentation & Control Technician performs calibration, programming, installation, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment and various instrumentation, control systems, and process equipment used in the traffic control devices, street lighting, and traffic related communications operations setting. Assists, completes, and/or leads crews responsible for performing a broad range of electronic tasks in accordance with the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) standards, traffic control devices and electronics trade practices.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate
  • One year of formal vocational schooling in electronics or other relevant field
  • Two (2) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
  • Possession of IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I Certification (within six months of hire)
  • Possession of Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, installs, maintains, modifies, calibrates, inspects, and repairs traffic control devices, street lighting and associated communication equipment.
  • Assists with construction and assembly of traffic control devices, street lighting and ancillary devices and performs other modifications to traffic control device operational equipment, exhibits and other devices.
  • Operates electronic controlling, measuring, transmitting, testing and diagnostic equipment in a traffic control device operations setting.
  • Performs basic installation, modification, fabrication, repair and maintenance of electronic and/or electrical equipment used in traffic control devices, street lighting and traffic signal communication setting in accordance with ISA, FDOT, MUTCD and/or the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Performs basic analysis and interpretation of operational signal equipment and test data and may edit traffic signal programming using specified software.
  • Controls traffic signal operational processes using electronic software and applications such as scientific and analytic computer software, calculators, voltage and current meters, electronic probes, process multi-meters and specialized calibration equipment.
  • Interprets and ensures compliance with established specifications, calculates data necessary for wiring systems, and requisitions supplies and materials needed to complete projects and assignments.
  • Recommends electronic requirements in support of traffic control devices facilities and/or systems.
  • Coordinates maintenance schedule with operation’s staff as well as prepares technical reports of electronic operational issues.
  • Provides written documentation and reports for compliance inspections.
  • Performs other duties as designated.
