VHB’s growing Hauppauge, NY team is looking for a Traffic Engineering Project Manager to join our Transportation team. Requirements
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
- Strong writing skills for proposals, technical reports and memoranda
- Ability to present at public meetings as part of project outreach
- The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
- An understanding of effectively overseeing multi-disciplinary projects and teams
- Experience managing projects and marketing transportation services
- Motivated to lead and mentor junior team members
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field of study required
- 8-11 years of professional experience in traffic/transportation engineering required
- Experience with Long Island, NY region transportation projects preferred
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure required
- Understanding of Vissim and Synchro preferred
- Experience with SEQRA preferred
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree a plus and may substitute for 1 year of experience
Responsibilities
- Manage traffic engineering, transportation planning, and/or safety projects and contracts
- Attend and lead meetings with agencies, clients, consultant partners, and stakeholders
- Develop new project opportunities, manage client relationships, and prepare and manage proposal submissions
- Complete traffic safety and operational improvement studies for localized intersections and corridors
- Lead development of traffic impact analyses (TIAs) and/or TIA reviews on behalf of municipalities
- Provide analyses of traffic safety issues and crash reduction measures
- Conduct field investigations to determine crash contributing factors and identification of appropriate countermeasures
- Oversee quality and contribute to complex technical decisions on a range of multimodal transportation engineering assignments
- Address community traffic engineering and safety issues
- Manage projects involving the design of traffic control devices (signs, markings, signals)
- Develop mobility solutions which consider all users, including motorists, bicyclists, public transit users and pedestrians of all ages and abilities
- Familiarity with Long Island, NY region municipalities and agencies traffic operations and safety policies and practices
- Work collaboratively with team, as well as provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to staff
