Requirements

  • A B.S. in Civil or Transportation Engineering
  • At least 5 years of experience in traffic engineering and/or traffic planning projects
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure, required
  • Experience planning, scheduling, coordinating, and conducting transportation and traffic engineering work
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and techniques applied in traffic and transportation projects
  • Skilled in explaining, persuading, and negotiating critical project issues
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships
  • Proficiency in Synchro, Excel, and OpenRoads
  • Strong understanding of and experience using HCM, MUTCD, AASHTO, and DOT’s Policies and Procedures, including DOT policy manuals or similar documents

Nice To Haves

  • DOT experience strongly desired
  • Knowledge of HCS, SIDRA, VISSIM, ArcGIS, CUBE, and TransCAD is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate transportation engineering work, including traffic impact analyses, traffic forecasting studies, roundabout feasibility studies, parking studies, signal timing studies, access management studies, intersection safety analyses, operational studies, and corridor studies
  • Prepare engineering reports, plans, and specifications for major projects
  • Produce engineering drawings based on applicable traffic industry calculations; check, interpret, and revise engineering drawings
  • Prepare and review project plans, technical specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates
  • Prepare informational materials (e.g., project fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations) to communicate projects clearly to stakeholders and the public
  • Supervise less experienced engineers and technical support personnel within a project team
  • Coordinate projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants, and firm staff
  • Communicate and interact effectively with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate
  • Prepare project scope, schedules, and budgets; assist in overall project management
