We are seeking a Traffic Engineer (EI) who will work on transportation planning and traffic engineering projects for our Traffic Services Group in our Cary or Charlotte, NC office. NV5 is seeking a skilled professional with expertise in traffic design for our Raleigh, NC or Charlotte, NC office. Primary responsibility will be the preparation of work zone traffic control plans (i.e., transportation management plans), signing and pavement marking, traffic signal design, ITS design, and roadway lighting. Ideal candidate will be a team player with a minimum of 4 years of traffic engineering experience on North Carolina and South Carolina DOT projects. Candidate will be part of a growing traffic engineering team involved in a wide variety of NCDOT and municipal transportation projects. Additional experience in one or more of the following traffic engineering subdisciplines is desired:

Requirements

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in traffic engineering.
  • Knowledge of state and municipal policies, standards, specifications, and guidelines desired.
  • Experience preparing traffic engineering design plans for a state DOT or municipality.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, writing and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred to have Professional Engineer license, with ability to obtain NC PE within 3 months.
  • Project or Task Management experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience using MicroStation, ORD, or Civil3D is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing traffic management plans and temporary traffic control plans
  • Traffic signal design, closed-loop signal system design, and ITS design
  • Experience preparing signing and pavement marking plans
  • Traffic analyses using software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA.
  • ITS and Lighting design for major roadway projects
