About The Position

Requirements

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of basic transportation engineering theories, principles, and methods.
  • Skill in the use of drafting and calculating instruments and other computer applications.
  • Considerable ability in performing mathematical computations and preparing minor design and structural details.

Nice To Haves

  • 3.0 or higher grade-point average in relevant engineering courses.
  • Academic, internship, or work experience utilizing engineering-related computer software.
  • Experience with presentation skills and oral and written communication skills.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with CTDOT Standard Specifications and CTDOT Design Manuals.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Access.

Responsibilities

  • Design and review electrical elements for traffic control signals and other electrical needs on State roadways.
  • Prepare plans using CAD software.
  • Prepare specifications and estimates for electrical elements related to transportation projects.
  • Coordinate with utilities on Traffic Engineering signal projects and ensure compliance with NESC, NEC, and PURA codes/regulations.
  • Review and approve product data submittals from contractors for signal equipment.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure electrical elements of traffic signals are constructed per contract documents.
  • Prepare power letters used to determine electricity costs for State-owned signal equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance in researching and developing specifications for new technology.
