About The Position

As a Traffic Design Engineer, P.E., you will support mid to large-scale transportation projects with a focus on Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and/or Signing, Pavement Marking design, ITS, Signals, and Lighting. This role is ideal for an experienced traffic engineer who is technically strong, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow into larger project responsibilities while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and public agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required
  • 5 to 9 years of experience in traffic engineering analysis and design
  • Experience with MOT and or signing and pavement marking design
  • Working knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO, and DOT standards
  • Experience with Bentley ProjectWise, MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar design software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Self-motivated, organized, and attentive to detail
  • Interest in continued professional development and taking on increasing responsibility over time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Synchro, SimTraffic, Vistro, Vissim, or Aimsun preferred
  • Familiarity with UDOT or other DOT plan preparation procedures

Responsibilities

  • Develop Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans for transportation projects, including temporary traffic control, detours, and phased construction
  • Perform analysis, design, and plan sheet preparation for signing, striping, ITS, signals, lighting, and/or MOT for highways, arterials, interchanges, and intersections
  • Support technical leads and project managers on traffic design tasks while ensuring compliance with MUTCD, AASHTO, and DOT standards
  • Prepare studies, technical reports, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Coordinate with internal team members across disciplines to support project delivery
  • Participate in meetings with clients, agencies, and project stakeholders
  • Apply quality control practices to assigned design tasks and deliverables
  • Manage multiple assignments and meet established project schedules
