About The Position

The Traffic Control Technician position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility designs, repairs, removes, and installs street signs. Work is performed under the supervision of the Traffic Engineering Technician Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months post high school education.
  • One (1) year of directly related experience.
  • Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License.

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift Operator Certification (to be obtained within six months of hire).
  • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signs and Pavement Markings Technician I Certification (to be obtained within six months of hire).
  • IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification (to be obtained within six months of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Installs and repairs street signs by setting up safety equipment, removes damaged signs and posts.
  • Sets up temporary signs, measures and marks blue stake areas, removes obstructions, and installs new or replaces signs and signposts.
  • Fabrics street signs by entering information into the computer.
  • Prints letters and applies sign face to a metal surface.
  • Performs silk-screening, punching, drilling, and sign assembly.
  • Enters data into department asset tracking system and Arizona Bluestake system.
  • Retrieve forms and reports from the asset tracking system for dissemination to leadership.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
