About The Position

This position is engaged in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic devices in accordance with City and State laws and the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. May be placed on standby call on a rotating basis. This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Requirements

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• Requires one-year experience in electronics or electricity; or equivalent.
• Valid New Mexico Drivers' license or equivalent.
• Must have or obtain within one year a nationally recognized Level I Certification in signing and marking and a Level I in Traffic Signals.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of reading and understanding plan drawings and electrical circuit diagrams and schematics is preferred.
• Welding preferred.
• Experience involving electronic or electrical repair is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the installation and maintenance of traffic signals, signs and devices such as traffic islands, street name signs, and painted traffic control lines.
• Assists with field studies to determine traffic volume, speed, effectiveness of signals and other factors influencing traffic conditions.
• Assists with electrical repairs in all city facilities.
• Climbs ladders or stands in tower-truck to reach traffic devices.
• Under direct supervision, test circuits and electronic components to detect faulty equipment.
• Under direct supervision, replaces blown fuses and bulbs, faulty transformers, timers, electrodes, and wires using electricians hand tools.
• Constructs and installs regulatory signs.
• Will be required to carry a pager when assigned stand-by duties.
