About The Position

The MOT Supervisor is responsible for managing all aspects of traffic control on construction sites. This position ensures that traffic control plans are properly implemented, compliant with state and local regulations, and maintain a safe environment for the public and construction crews.

Requirements

  • MOT / Traffic Control Supervisor Certification (state-specific requirement).
  • Knowledge of MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) standards.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in traffic control or roadway construction.
  • Previous experience supervising traffic control crews or field personnel.
  • Experience working in utility, telecom, roadway, or OSP construction environments.
  • Familiarity with traffic control plans and lane closure procedures.
  • Strong understanding of traffic control safety standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of temporary traffic control devices and proper placement.
  • Understanding of work zone safety requirements.
  • Ability to interpret traffic control plans and construction drawings.

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • Ability to operate traffic control vehicles - TMA's and equipment, to include AFAB's.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights or weekends when required.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and oversee Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans for construction activities.
  • Ensure proper placement of traffic control devices including signs, cones, barrels, barricades, and message boards.
  • Monitor traffic flow and adjust traffic control setups as necessary to maintain safety.
  • Supervise MOT technicians and traffic control personnel.
  • Assign daily tasks and coordinate with field crews and project managers.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings with MOT staff.
  • Ensure all traffic control setups meet local, state, and federal regulations (MUTCD standards).
  • Conduct routine inspections of traffic control zones.
  • Maintain safe work zones for employees, motorists, and pedestrians.
  • Work closely with project managers, foremen, and construction crews to coordinate lane closures and work zones.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, inspectors, and law enforcement when required.
  • Communicate traffic changes to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Manage inventory of traffic control equipment.
  • Ensure all signage, cones, and safety devices are in good condition.
  • Arrange delivery and pickup of MOT equipment as needed.
  • Maintain records of traffic control setups and inspections.
  • Complete daily reports and incident reports if necessary.
  • Ensure proper documentation for compliance audits.
