About The Position

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office employs 95 non-sworn, part-time personnel assigned to the Traffic Control Unit. The traffic control officer's primary responsibilities are to provide protection for children and parents crossing roadways en route to and from school and to assist bus and other school-related traffic to enter and exit the school grounds in a safe and timely manner. Traffic Control Officers are assigned to designated crossings at schools within the Cumberland County School System, based upon traffic volume, physical terrain, the number and ages of children utilizing the crossing, and the width of the intersection. This position requires open availability from 7:00 am to 8:00 am and from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday during active school days (weekends, holidays, and summer off).

Requirements

Must be a United States citizen
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have a high school diploma or GED
Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license
Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes, but is not limited to, a criminal background check, an eye and hearing exam, and a drug screening
Attach a copy of the following documents to the completed application or submit to the Human Resource Office located at 131 Dick St., Fayetteville, NC: North Carolina Driver's License, Birth Certificate, Social Security Card
Authorization of Release of Personal Information to Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. The Authorization for Release form must be notarized.
