About The Position

The Certified Flagger performs traffic control duties in conjunction with MOT and construction crews. This role is essential for ensuring the safety of both workers and motorists in construction zones.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable previous experience as a Certified Flagger.
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years experience as a Certified Flagger in the heavy highway industry preferred.
  • Flagger certification required.
  • Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees.
  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
  • Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and, at times, as much as 90 pounds.
  • Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site.
  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
  • Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform flagging and other traffic control duties as required.
  • Direct traffic flow safely around workers/construction zone.
  • Effectively communicate with site workers to provide correct direction to motorists.
  • Record and report vehicle information of disobedient/unsafe drivers as needed.
  • Follow and adhere to all Blythe and NCDOT safety standards and guidelines in all traffic and construction zones.
  • Follow recommended methods and procedures set forth by supervisor for traffic maintenance operations.
  • Place barrels, signs, barricades, traffic cones, etc. as needed.
  • Remain observant of traffic and surroundings at all times.
  • Effectively communicate with co-workers to facilitate traffic movement.
