About The Position

Trading Systems Engineer – Full-Stack Company: Blockhouse Location: Remote (US time zones preferred; NYC in person if possible) Type: Full-time (Start immediately – hiring through end of January) About Blockhouse Blockhouse is building an integrated systematic investment platform that designs, deploys, and operates fully automated trading strategies across liquid global markets. Our focus is on high-performance execution, robust research infrastructure, and production-grade trading systems that support systematic strategies end to end. As we scale our operations, we need sophisticated internal tools to monitor our systems, visualize trading activity, and empower our traders, researchers, and operations teams to make rapid, data-driven decisions. The dashboards and platforms you build will be mission-critical infrastructure used daily across the organization. We're looking for a full-stack engineer who can own our internal tooling ecosystem end-to-end and build the interfaces that bring our trading data to life. Role Overview This is a high-impact platform engineering role focused on building and maintaining internal dashboards, client-facing visualization tools, and operational systems. You'll own both frontend interfaces and the backend services that power them, working across our entire stack to deliver real-time, data-rich experiences. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong full-stack engineering skills with product thinking – you'll work closely with traders, quants, and operations to understand their needs and translate them into robust, performant tools.

Requirements

Strong full-stack development experience with Python and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
Proficiency with React or similar modern frontend frameworks
Experience building data-intensive applications with real-time update requirements
Solid understanding of API design and backend service architecture
Experience with relational databases and query optimization (PostgreSQL, Clickhouse or similar)
Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Strong debugging skills across the stack
Comfortable working in UNIX/Linux environments
Experience working and building with AG Grid to create UI components

Nice To Haves

Experience with data visualization libraries (D3.js, Plotly, Highcharts)
Exposure to financial systems, trading dashboards, or market data
Familiarity with WebSocket implementations and real-time data streaming
Experience with TimeSeries databases or analytics platforms
Background in fintech, healthcare systems, or other high-stakes environments
Knowledge of Docker and cloud deployment patterns (AWS)
Experience with monitoring and observability tools
Understanding of performance profiling and optimization techniques

Responsibilities

Design and build real-time dashboards for trading operations, risk monitoring, and system health
Develop client-facing visualization tools and reporting interfaces
Build and maintain backend APIs and data pipelines that power dashboard frontends
Optimize performance for dashboards handling large-scale, real-time market data
Implement data visualization components using modern libraries (D3.js, Plotly, or similar)
Work with WebSockets and streaming data to provide live updates without lag
Collaborate with traders and operations teams to gather requirements and iterate on UX
Maintain and evolve existing platform infrastructure while building new capabilities
Debug full-stack issues across frontend, backend, and data layers
Deploy and monitor services in production (AWS-based infrastructure)
