About The Position

Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the position of Tradesman II/Licensed General Maintenance Technician Pool . We are looking for a proven leader, motivator, and self-starter who requires demonstrated skills in multiple specialties; including and not limited to; carpentry; electrical; plumbing; or HVAC services. The general maintenance technician performs whatever duties that is necessary to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for students and staff. The successful candidate must have a successful record of general knowledge of repairs in commercial plumbing, carpentry, electrical and HVAC preventive maintenance . The candidate must also be licensed in one of the four trades. Computer literacy/fluency is a requirement. This position is considered essential. DUTIES: Primarily responsible for general maintenance of all facilities as directed. Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs equipment in school buildings and other facilities operated by the Board of Education. Ability to operate and maintain equipment engines (mowers, vehicles, tractors, etc.) as needed highly desirable. Assist other tradesmen or work independently as needed. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with others as assigned. Estimates costs of projects in terms of labor, materials, and overhead. Responsible for tracking actual cost verses estimates. Responsible for other maintenance tasks as assigned to include; minor carpentry, plumbing (toilets, urinals, water fountains, piping) minor electrical repairs and preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment. Capable of reading and interpreting blueprints and systems diagrams. Knowledgeable of building codes. Analyzes and organizes assigned job tasks. Skilled in one or more of the construction trades. Responsible for securing necessary materials for the job to be completed in an efficient manner. Complete work orders utilizing the Facilities Department’s work order system. Basic Knowledge of computers to include email. Performs Inclement Weather tasks as assigned. Required to be on call for night, weekend or holiday, regular or emergency work and weekend and holiday building checks when needed. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum Experience: Two years’ experience in commercial or institutional general maintenance.
  • Required License and Education: Valid Maryland driver’s license
  • Maryland state license in one of the following trades; HVAC, Plumbing, Maryland Home Improvement or Electrical.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
