About The Position

The Trades Supervisor (Mason and Plasterer) at Belmont Lake State Park is responsible for performing skilled masonry and plastering work, including restoration of historic buildings. This role involves planning, estimating, and supervising masonry projects while ensuring adherence to safety standards. The position requires a strong background in masonry techniques and the ability to train and oversee other workers.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a skilled journey level mason subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
  • Ability to prepare job estimates, maintain inventory and stock control, and order shop supplies.
  • Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor and work from heights.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a Class A or B CDL is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Journeyman level mason and plasterer duties.
  • Plan, lay out, and complete masonry and plastering work, including preparing job estimates and ordering supplies.
  • Perform restoration work on historic buildings and structures to maintain the original fabric of the building.
  • Lay building materials such as stone, brick, concrete, and cinder blocks to repair walls, partitions, firebrick linings in furnaces and chimneys.
  • Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, and sidewalks.
  • Apply coats of plaster to walls and ceilings, including preparation of surface, mixing of plaster, application of plaster, and erection of scaffolding if needed.
  • Train and supervise others in masonry and plastering tasks.
  • Operate light trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors, landscape equipment, and other small equipment.
