About The Position

SUNY Morrisville is seeking a Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Under general supervision, the Trades Specialist (Locksmith) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of locking mechanisms, door hardware, key-control systems, access control devices, and associated security hardware on the campus. Key duties include manufacturing and issuing keys, pinning and re-pinning cores, maintaining master key systems, diagnosing and repairing electric strikes, maintaining door and door hardware, maintaining access control systems, requesting vendor quotes, providing estimates for lock/hardware projects, managing spare inventory, and reviewing vendor proposals related to door and access hardware. The role also involves reading plans and specifications and hardware schedules, creating and maintaining key holder inventory and material inventories, and coordinating with facilities, electronics group, IT, University police, and other related user and end user groups on campus. The role is also responsible for ensuring compliance with institutional standards for safety, ADA accessibility requirements, and security.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time experience in locksmithing under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson or journey-level locksmith, which provides the necessary training and skills.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience with master-key systems, electronic access hardware, installation/maintenance of locks, door hardware, and access control devices.
  • Ability to read plans and specifications, hardware schedules, and to provide cost estimates.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and after-hours service calls as required
