About The Position

The Trades Generalist at Grafton Lakes State Park will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment, and electrical trades. Under the direction of higher-level Park Managers and Park Supervisors, the role includes performing repairs and maintenance at Grafton Lakes State Park and other satellite facilities, operating heavy equipment, and assisting in facility maintenance and supervising lower-level staff. The position requires a basic working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in multiple trades, as well as the ability to work independently and troubleshoot problems.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson.
  • Possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
  • Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor, including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
  • Willingness to keep up on all mandated safety training, including First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
  • Completion of 'Game of Logging' chainsaw safety and productivity training program or approved equivalent course.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and maintenance at Grafton Lakes State Park and other satellite facilities.
  • Operate heavy equipment including tractors, loaders, mowers, and snowplows.
  • Complete projects associated with the maintenance of parks, grounds, and infrastructure.
  • Assist in directing facility maintenance and supervising lower-level staff in the absence of the maintenance supervisor.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain DOH requirements for water systems and collect water samples.
  • Plan and lay out projects, interpret plans, and supervise and train others.
  • Troubleshoot problems and make necessary repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
