About The Position

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Temporary Trademark Paralegal in any of our west coast U.S. offices (Los Angeles; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; or Seattle). This is a temporary position with an opportunity to convert to a full-time employee. This is a hybrid role. Are you a proactive professional with a passion for intellectual property law? As a temporary Trademark Paralegal, you will manage a broad range of trademark and copyright matters, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance at every step. You will support the delivery of quality legal services to clients by performing technical tasks that require accuracy, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, strong written and oral communication skills and computer proficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred.
  • 3+ years of trademark paralegal experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in U.S. and international trademark prosecution and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of USPTO, Madrid Protocol, and foreign filing requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, docketing systems, and legal research databases (e.g., LEXIS, Westlaw).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and contribute proactively within a team.
  • Paralegals in our California offices must meet the qualifications and continuing education requirements set forth in the California Business and Professions Code, Section 6450 et seq.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, file, prosecute, and monitor U.S. and international trademark applications.
  • Correspond extensively with foreign associates and manage global trademark portfolios.
  • Review and manage trademark watch notices and subscriptions.
  • Conduct searches using USPTO and Saegis systems.
  • Report deadlines, renewals, and maintenance requirements to clients.
  • Prepare, file, and prosecute copyright applications.
  • Assist with TTAB actions, including oppositions, cancellations, and appeals.
  • Prepare and file assignment and security interest recordations.
  • Administer daily docket clearing and review trademark mail.
  • Monitor and track all due dates, distribute mail, and support legal research.
  • Research relevant cases, law review articles, and statutes; prepare memoranda summarizing findings.
  • Stay current with changes in U.S. and international trademark procedures through continuing legal education.
