About The Position

UnitedLex is hiring a Trademark Attorney to support a global corporate client in the Detroit, MI area. Ideal candidates should have strong emerging skills in complex global trademark strategy and counseling. This position will support two Senior Global Trademark Attorneys and other members of the client's trademark team as needed on (1) global trademark clearance and trademark application and maintenance support, (2) complex U.S. prosecution matters and ex-US trademark prosecution support, (3) trademark licensing and agreement support, and (4) trademark counseling, training, enforcement, legal research and other related tasks. The Trademark Attorney will utilize the support of the Trademark Paralegals, Trademark Administrator, and Outside Counsel for such purposes. This position will primarily be Work from Office (WFO) given the nature of business and the client driven security policies and requirements. Work hours would be generally 8am to 5pm with weekends off. We welcome applicants from the Detroit, Michigan commutable area.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school
  • 2+ years of experience of global trademark clearance and prosecution experience as a trademark practitioner
  • Aptitude to develop strategic counseling and trademark portfolio management skills for domestic and global brands.
  • Be well-versed in the Trademark Manual of Examining Procedures (TMEP) and TBMP
  • Availability to commute daily for work at the client's Detroit area office.

Responsibilities

  • Support trademark clearance for regional and global clearance projects, with the assistance of the client’s in-house trademark team and outside counsel resources.
  • Support US trademark application preparation, office actions, use declarations, and other prosecution-related tasks with the direct support of Global Brand Specialists and under the strategic oversight of Senior Global Trademark Counsels.
  • Manage ex-U.S. trademark prosecution matters with the direct support of Global Brand Specialists and under the strategic oversight of Senior Global Trademark Counsels, with the support by outside foreign counsel.
  • Remain up to date on developments in trademark practice, and conduct legal research as needed.
  • Coordinate global trademark renewals with in-house paralegal support and manage relationships with external support for renewal and maintenance tasks.
  • Serve as a thought leader on team operations, supporting the drafting and maintenance of trademark team operational playbooks and resources with support from Trademark Administrator.
  • Provide transactional support on licensing, sponsorship, and other transactions, with the oversight of Senior Global Trademark Counsels.
