About The Position

The Trade Shop Supervisor provides essential leadership and guidance, managing the daily planning, organization, and evaluation of all technician tasks. The position ensures that all trade shop work is performed with accuracy, quality, and efficiency. This position also develops and maintains key reports, leveraging data to analyze business processes, optimizing work requirements, and managing budgeting resources effectively. The electrical shop supervisor oversees and is responsible for the decision making of electricians and senior electricians in areas of troubleshooting & diagnosing electrical equipment outages in challenging environments, repair and maintenance of equipment, preventative maintenance activities, and overseeing emergency and after-hours response for all electrical systems up to 25kV across raw water delivery infrastructure, water treatment plants, pump stations, and hydroelectric power plants. This role ensures the safe working conditions of equipment and electricians in compliance with state, local and federal regulations, standards including Arch Flash, LOTO procedures, proper usage of electrical safety PPE, NFPA 70E and proper de-energization practices. The electric shop supervisor is the subject matter expert in the operations and maintenance of medium-voltage equipment, protective & isolation devices, motors, motor control centers, industrial instrumentation, AC & DC systems and other electrical distribution system assets.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 6 years of related work experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for the position.
  • Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Class 'R' Colorado driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • State Master Electrical License at time of hire.
  • May require ISA Level 1 Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of technicians within the designated trade shop. Manage all aspects of technician performance, including hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and ongoing training and development
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and coordination of daily tasks, work orders and projects to ensure timely and efficient completion.
  • Provide comprehensive instruction and training to ensure team proficiency in all job-specific duties, incorporating the safe and effective use of specialized tools, equipment, established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and essential computer systems and software applications.
  • Supervise the overall quality and quantity of work performed by technicians, ensuring strict adherence to industry standards, all applicable State and Local codes, as well as Denver Water's CPCS quality standards.
  • Supervise and/or actively participate in the inspection and diagnosis of equipment failures and preventative maintenance activities that align with Asset Management best practices.
  • Oversee and/or assist with the disassembly, replacement, reassembly, and performance testing of equipment using standard testing devices. May be required to perform technical calculations, equipment layout or understand and interpret drawings.
  • Train, mentor, and coach personnel on standard job methods and procedures, proper tool/equipment usage, and rigorous adherence to safe working practices.
  • Ensure all Personal Protective Equipment is inspected and tested according to industry standards.
  • Assist with budget preparation, provide recommendations for contract work, and coordinate maintenance, equipment, and inventory control.
  • Develop key performance metrics and establish goals to support overall operational efficiency and strategic initiatives. Develop and maintain comprehensive reports, and update and maintain accurate work order records
  • Perform capacity planning based on business needs to align staffing and resources with Asset Management best practices and the strategic goals of the organization.
  • May be required to perform on call duty, work shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as directed.
  • May be required to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Perform related duties as required.
